Staying silent on the Island of the Gods is perhaps a deeper statement than you think. This religious ceremony is bigger and more lavish than any other in the year. The folklore surrounding the island claims that after celebrations to kick off Nyepi, the island goes into hiding to protect itself from evil spirits by enveloping an atmosphere of a peaceful, deserted island.
Even the airport is closed for 24 hours, this year from 22/3 at 6am to 23/3 at 6am. Don't plan any activities, just be silent, introspective, contemplative and above all happy and at ease with yourself.
